Before we turn the last calendar page on 2022, we’re remembering how faithful God has been this year through your prayers, your partnership, and your willingness to proclaim to others your passion for this ministry. Matthew 6:21 says, "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" (NIV). These pictures of you over the last 12 months show clearly where your heart is: Your love for the Lord is reflected in each one. Thank you for standing with our KGM pastors and believers in India as they reach out to their people, helping them find hope in Jesus. Because you did, widow Kamala grew her flock from five to 23 and gave away 10 chickens to two struggling neighbors. She kept two roosters to continue growing her flock. Now Pastor Saha says she’s ready to give more away more offspring to other families in her village. That’s just ONE of the one hundred families who received flocks from you. Your loving example is birthing more backyard chicken businesses every day, as God continues to multiply your flocks (and your kindness!) to transform hearts and lives in India. Let’s do it again this year! The hunger crisis in India is massive. But together, we can change that.

What if I told you obtaining animals is the answer. Seem unlikely?  India's government considers it one of the best ways for poor families in rural areas to lift themselves out of poverty. 

Here's what these animals provide: 

ENOUGH FOOD TO EAT

Entire families can sustain themselves with the meat, nutrient-rich milk, or high-protein eggs that goats and chickens provide.

EXTRA INCOME

As the animals reproduce, families can sell the leftover milk, eggs, cheese, and butter. And when the flocks and herds flourish, the kids and chicks can be quickly sold for even more cash.

• Better healthcare and medicine are more affordable

KERUSOMEN'S GIFTS OF HOPE PROGRAM

Families must show they are serious about providing a sustainable food supply and/or extra income for themselves and their children. In order to show their interest, they contribute their own money to feed and build shelter for the animals. Women and widows, who are the head of their households, can also attend training classes that teach them to manage money and achieve basic business skills. 

Each family agrees to give first-born animals to help another needy family in their village and welcome regular visits from KGM pastors to check on the family’s progress towards self-sufficiency. This ensures that the Gifts of Hope program will have lasting results.

Ancy and her widowed mother live in Kerala, India. KGM Pastor Simon says Ancy and her mother are "the poorest of the poor" struggling to make ends meet on less than $2.00 a day.

 

All of Ancy's life she has known poverty, for she and her family belong to one of the most underprivileged people groups in the area. As Nadars, Ancy is classified among the "other backward classes." Socially and educationally disadvantaged and often discriminated against, many Nadar remain trapped in misery for generations. With few opportunities and no dowry to attract a good husband, it looked like Ancy's future would be no different until the gift of a female goat changed everything. 

Ancy knew that raising goats could help her and her mother do more than just survive, they could actually help them get ahead. For ten months she carefully tended to the animal's needs and last month her efforts paid off: Ancy's goat had triplets! Two females and one male. The mother goat produces plenty of milk for Ancy's family and the extra she sells for income.  Ancy plans to keep the male kid for breeding and growing her flock. 

To Ancy, these goats are not only pets she loves, they are a gift from God and with hard work, a lifeline out of poverty.  To share her blessing, in a month she will return not one, but both female kids to KGM India and Pastor Simon will give them to two more impoverished families. 

In just 10 months your gift of one goat is changing the lives of three families in Ancy's village. And that's not all. With a 150-day reproduction cycle, a single female goat can produce seven to nine goats in just two years! Soon Ancy's offspring will give birth and more kids will return to Kerusomen amd more lives will be blessed. Now multiply that by the 135 goats you gave to other families and you begin to get a glimpse of the huge impact your gifts of love are already making.

KGM PASTORS HAVE TRAINED OVER 2,000 BIBLE STORYTELLERS 

In September KGM India held statewide trainings for men and women Bible Storytellers in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. This fruitful ministry is equipping pastors and believers to take the Gospel Story where it's never gone before - to the semi-illiterate and oral tribal cultures in India. 

THE STORY THAT SAVED

A BULLIED BOY 

We’ve heard some poignant stories. There was a child who understood Jesus loved him when he heard the story of the leper whom Jesus healed. The boy's ears perked up when he heard the leper was alone and despised by society. When he heard him called "untouchable," he leaned in closer so he wouldn't miss a word of the tale. During question time, the storyteller learned that the child had been bullied by others because he was of the Dalit caste (formerly called untouchables.) A simple story, told in a way he could understand, touched the boy's heart with the love he had longed for all his life: he met Jesus. 

Mission field stories like these, of changed lives, drive us to Pray, Partner and Proclaim God's mighty works and love for oral tribal cultures and the illiterate in India even more this year.
